Exterior and Interior
The seventh-generation S-Class saw a new design, particularly at the front and rear, which this 2021 Mercedes-Benz S580 Sedan proudly displays in its clean Designo Diamond White paintjob. It’s also got a discrete rear spoiler in body color, chrome plated handles, 20-inch Y-multispoke wheels with wheel locking nuts and the Exclusive Trim package. Venture aboard and you are greeted by a rich Carmine Red and Black Exclusive Nappa Leather interior that offers seating accommodations for four in supreme comfort. The list of refinements is too extensive to reproduce in entirety, but highlights include Warmth and Comfort package, heated steering wheel, powered rear memory seats that are heated, ventilated and sport heated armrests as well. The Rear Seat package brings four-zone climate control, Chauffeur package, rear seat wireless charging, MBUX rear tablet, rear neck and shoulder heating, rear seat belt airbags, and the ability to control the front passenger seat from the rear for extra legroom if unoccupied. The Rear Seat Entertainment Package includes the rear energizing package, 2 wireless headsets and the MBUX high-end entertainment system. Up front, the driver enjoys plenty of tech toys as well, including the Technology Package which brings MBUX augmented reality heads-up display and 3D instrument cluster. There are two screens up front, one ahead of the driver for the instrumentation and navigation information, and a second, larger touchscreen for operating the climate control, entertainment system and car settings. The premium sound system will blow everyone’s socks off!
Engine
The S-Class is a big car, and as such needs a suitably brawny engine to power it along in the requisite fashion of being swift but not obnoxious. This 2021 Mercedes-Benz S580 Sedan is propelled by Mercedes-Benz’ 4.0L M176 twin turbocharged V8. Together with the EQ Boost mild hybrid system, the engine outputs 496hp and 516lb-ft to all four wheels via a 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission and the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system. This allows for a zero to sixty sprint time of around 4.5 seconds, topping out an an electronically-limited 155mph. Multi-link suspension with air suspension is standard on the range, and large ventilated disc brakes bring this luxury living room on wheels to an appropriate stop.
